Hall's Croft. £9. Hall's Croft was the home of William Shakespeare's daughter Susanna Hall and her husband Dr John Hall. The house in the old town that is furnished in the style of the early 17th-century. John and Susanna Hall only lived here for a few years and they moved to New Place, which William Shakespeare left to his daughter.

Notice its three stories—the upper two of which are overhanging—which make it quite typical of its time. While you are here, take a look at Dr. Hall's consulting room together with the exhibition featuring medical treatments.

Between 1850 and 1883, Hall's Croft was used as a private boarding school. Known as Cambridge House School, it was twice a boys' school and once a girls' college. While Thomas Umbers was owner of Hall's Croft, a boys' school was established on the premises in 1850. Umbers had moved to Cheltenham in 1848, and after two failed attempts.

Having visited all of the Shakespeare houses many times over the years, Hall's Croft, the home of Shakespeare's daughter Susanna and son-in-law Dr John Hall, remains our favourite. Relatively small, beautifully furnished with period furniture (but not the original furniture) and with an excellent display of medical.
